BUFSD - Brentwood High School senior Nica Fairweather has been recognized as a Top 300 semifinalist in the prestigious Regeneron Science Talent Search, the nation’s most esteemed science and mathematics competition for high school seniors.

"Nica’s research underscores the profound impact of climate change on marine ecosystems and highlights the importance of protecting our oceans," said Dr. Rebecca Grella, coordinator of science and technology. "Her dedication and innovation are an inspiration to our entire community."

As a Regeneron STS semifinalist, Nica stands among the nation’s most promising young scientists. She is now in contention for further recognition as the field will be narrowed down on Jan. 23 to 40 finalists who will compete in Washington, D.C., for over $1.8 million in awards.

District representatives said that Brentwood High School congratulates Nica Fairweather on this outstanding achievement and celebrates her contributions to advancing scientific understanding of environmental challenges.

NEWS 12 LI - The Long Island Expressway is open after a crash involving a Suffolk police vehicle in Brentwood.

News 12 has learned the officer is battling serious injuries this morning.

The incident happened just after 6 p.m. on January 5 near Exit 55 on the westbound side. The Suffolk officer was airlifted to the hospital.

📚 New Diploma Requirements:

- Starting in 2024, students will have one diploma option with advanced designation as a distinction.

- By 2027, Regents exams will no longer be required for graduation, replaced by performance-based assessments focused on literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving.

- By 2029, graduates will have redefined seals, endorsements, and a statewide transcript showcasing their skills and achievements.

✨ Project-Based Learning (PBL):

Brentwood High School is proud to pilot NYSED’s new project- and performance-based learning approach! This ensures students demonstrate their knowledge in meaningful, real-world ways.

📖 Consistency Across the State:

Standardized rubrics for PBL will maintain quality across districts while celebrating the diverse strengths of students.
